The Ross Morkem Memorial Endowed Scholarship was established to honor the memory of Men's Basketball player Ross Morkem who passed away during his sophomore year in September 2017.  During his time at UNG, he was named as a 2016-17 Peach Belt Conference Presidential Honor Roll Scholar. He played in 29 games, with a scoring point average of 8.1 per game, and the highest points scored totaling 16 in a game. A 2016 Lambert High School graduate, Ross was 19 years old.

"Our Nighthawk family suffered a tremendous loss," UNG Head Men's Basketball Coach Chris Faulkner said. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the Morkem family, friends and his teammates. He represented North Georgia in a first-class manner and was an excellent teammate during his time at UNG. Everyone that came in contact with Ross, loved him."

Ross’s parents, Maria and Scott Morkem, established this scholarship to honor Ross’ memory and offer financial support to student-athletes at UNG.

He’ll always be in our hearts. We’re hoping the scholarship will be something of a legacy for him.
